NCMCF Youth Advisory Council (YAC)

What's New

In February 2010, the Crawford, Ogemaw, and Oscoda County YACs awarded over $9,000 to programs in their communities that benefit youth.  This group is gearing up for the same great task for 2011.  After a careful review and exceptional consideration, these young people determine the destination of grant funding from the Kellogg Youth Funds at the North Central Michigan Community Foundation.

Youth Advisory Council Grants

Each year, the NCMCF YAC awards grants to area projects and programs that benefit the youth of Crawford, Ogemaw, and Oscoda Counties.  The grant deadline is December 31 for Ogemaw and Oscoda Counties; December 31 and March 30 for Crawford County.

Community Service

Community Service

Not only has NCMCF's YAC been busy awarding grants, but they have managed to find time for community service, too.   Crawford County YAC helped one of its own grantees with a book drive at MSU Extension; Ogemaw County YAC is working on a community activities mural and campaigning for volunteers for the Kids Against Hunger food drive; and the Oscoda County YAC worked on sending care packages to U.S. troops.

The North Central Michigan Community Foundation Youth Advisory Council is a group of young people ages 12 to 21 from Crawford, Ogemaw, and Oscoda Counties.  Working with adult advisors, these youth work to improve the lives of other children in the community through the allocation of grant money.  By participating in the grant review meetings to decide how the grant money is disbursed, the YAC members actively learn about the unique needs of their communities, and how to provide for those needs.  They also learn the importance of philanthropy and charitable giving - traits that will affect their lives long after they leave high school.

Through this program, created by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, members learn how to meet the specific needs of their community, and it empowers them to make a real difference.
